Buchen mit WordPress

WordPress wird dank neuer Plugins immer mächtiger - ganz frisch aus der Byteschmiede kommt Staypress von clearskys.net [via ma.tt]:

StayPress is a collection of plugins that will turn a standard vanilla installation of WordPress or WordPress MU into a property management and bookings system. Of course when I say Property, I actually mean any bookable resource of which there is a finite availability. Als die Interaktivität zurückkehrte

Wie war das schnell nochmal, damals? Seinerzeit? "Wir waren mal Stars, die Karriere is vorbei, das war's, ihr rockt die Charts und wir hängen in den Bars," haben Torch und Linguist mal gerappt. Dabei wird's doch jetzt erst richtig lustig, wie Douglas Adams 1999 in in Paraphrase von Stanley Kubrick in seinem Essay How to Stop Worrying and Learn to Love the Internet schrieb:

"During [the twentieth] century we have for the first time been dominated by non-interactive forms of entertainment: cinema, radio, recorded music and television. Before they came along all entertainment was interactive: theatre, music, sport-the performers and audience were there together, and even a respectfully silent audience exerted a powerful shaping presence on the unfolding of whatever drama they were there for. We didn't need a special word for interactivity in the same way that we don't (yet) need a special word for people with only one head.

I expect that history will show "normal" mainstream twentieth century media to be the aberration in all this. 'Please, miss, you mean they could only just sit there and watch? They couldn't do anything? Didn't everybody feel terribly isolated or alienated or ignored?'

Und genau diesen paradigmatischen Einleitungssatz hat Joshua Porter für sein neues Buch Designing for the social web als Einleitungszitat gewählt. Er schreibt dazu:

As anybody who has ever read anything knows, the most important part of a book are the quotes sprinkled throughout it. Yes, if you are able to pick the perfect quotes to start your chapters with, then you've done the majority of hard work in writing.

Peter Purgathofer über Spam

Professor Peter Purgathofer vom Institut für Gestaltungs- und Wirkungsforschung der TU Wien, hielt kürzlich auf einer vom Verein accessible media organisierten Veranstaltung einen Vortrag zum Thema Captchas und Accessibility - Pflichtlektüre für jeden, der fundiert gegen die unsinnigen Anti-Spam Rätsel argumentieren möchte:

CAPTCHAs sind als nachhaltige und menschenfreundliche Lösung des Problems von Bot-Angriffen theoretisch wie praktisch ungeeignet. Als nachhaltige Lösung und als menschenfreundliche Lösung versagen sie in beiden Fällen.

Warum das so ist, verrät der Volltext des Vortrags - unbedingt lesen: nicht nur instruktiv, sondern obendrein noch unterhaltsam.

Das war's dann auch schon wieder mit dem diesmal um einen Tag verspäteten Wochenrückblick - aber gestern auf Franz' B-Day Grillparty war's trotz sintflutartiger Regenfälle extrem gemütlich... auch Blogger müssen Prioritäten setzen
